The vet income survey is run by a group of veterinary professionals who believe transparency in income leads to a fairer, happier, more sustainable profession.
Simon Clark is the primary coordinator managing the veterinary income survey.
I’m Simon Clark, a dedicated veterinarian with over two decades of experience in the field. I earned my BVSc from Massey University in 2002, starting my career in rural West Auckland in late 2001. In 2007, I expanded my skills and knowledge through a rotating internship at the Animal Specialty Group in Los Angeles, followed by a Master's of Veterinary Medicine from Massey in 2014, where I majored in companion animals.
Raised with a foundation in socialist values, I have always been committed to fairness and social justice. Over the years, I’ve witnessed firsthand how poor pay and demanding conditions have driven many talented professionals and paraprofessionals out of the veterinary field, leading to a crisis of staff shortages. Too few people are willing to enter the profession and those who do often leave due to burnout and inadequate support.
I believe that income transparency is a powerful way to help reverse these effects, advocating for better working conditions, and securing fair pay. I’m committed to supporting positive change in our profession and ensuring a sustainable future for veterinary professionals in New Zealand.
